Visions of Home explored themes of safety, family, sex work, and community through an immersive re-imagining of "Home".
There were 4 spaces for the audience to move through, exploring on their own or following performers. Live performers shown in these photos are Lexii Foxx of #StopKillingUs and Nadir. Other audio performances and artwork were created by additional community members, but are not sampled here.
Smear Campaign interviewed community members, devised a script, designed the scenic experience, handled budget, marketing, fundraising, and materials sourcing, and collaborated with Lexii Foxx and Nadir to create their performances in the context of the larger piece.
With collaborative development and feedback, I designed the signage and posters, and lit the piece.

A video installation in the lobby greeted audience members as they entered Abrons Arts Center.
The second space was a Home, built in to the Underground Theatre. Nadir spent the entire show in here, with the space being his home.
The third space - the Ballroom - served as both a ballroom and a street. This space had posters featuring quotes from community members on sex work, ballroom culture, the significance of NYC's piers, and laws impacting sex workers.
An audience member explores the Ballroom.
Signage throughout the space indicated location changes as well as assisted listening channel changes. This sign leads to the 4th space, the Memorial.
The Memorial was a long hallway featuring a memorial to community members, activists, and those killed by police violence.
Artwork and flyers were spread throughout the space, alerting the audience to a 'Ball Tonight', or linking to donation opportunities to help the TGNC sex work community.
This flyer was drawn & designed by me.
